NEWS (APS): Native 9th Through 11th Graders, Families Invited to College Night

Event will provide information on College Horizons summer program.

APS and One Generation Fund are holding another in a series of Native American College Nights for high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors.

During the upcoming session, Native American high school students will have the opportunity to explore the College Horizons summer program, connect with a CH representative, and learn about applying for the 2025 program. There will be a raffle involving gift cards and prizes for student attendees at the session.

The event will be held Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at City Center, 6400 Uptown NE.

College Horizons is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit dedicated to increasing Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian students enrolling, succeeding and graduating from college, professional and graduate schools. Its flagship summer program is open to all Native American sophomores and juniors in high school with a 3.0 GPA or higher. At the summer program, students work with college counselors and college admissions officers in a five-day “crash course” on the college admission and financial aid process. 

More than 3,500 Native students attend APS schools.

College Night sessions will provide important information on:

• The college application process.

• Financial aid and scholarships.

• How to write a college essay.

• Interviews and recommendations.

• Additional resources for the district’s Native American students.
